Our sincere thanks, also, to
Fourth District Supervisor
Don Knabe
for arranging for us to use a professional bandstand and dance platform for this event.

Yes... can you believe it?  Bellflower High School was established in 1951 and celebrated its 50th anniversary with a HUGE celebration and Classic Car Show on Saturday, April 28, 2001 at the school.  There was also a picnic at Mayfair Park on Friday with many alumni in attendance.  It was the most wonderful weekend you could imagine, the Anniversary was marvelous, the car show one of the best ever, and all of it was so well-organized that it went off with hardly even the teensiest hitch.

The aftermath has been as exciting as the prelude. The Committee received so many e-mails, phone calls, cards, etc., etc., to let us know just how much everyone enjoyed the day.

Attractions included special guests, dancers, food and beverages, a terrific Classic Car Show, BHS Marching Band, performances by the Pep Squad, Drill Team, Alumni, not to mention the musical groups, a fireworks spectacular, T-shirts, etc.

Attendees were treated to musical Performances by The Surfin' Safaris, The Alley Cats, and Leon Hughes, the original Coaster, along with two Elvis Impersonators, The Amazing Platters, and America's Premiere Doo-Wop group, The Drifters

One of the highlights of the whole thing was the grand finale when the Surfaris did "Wipe Out" and the fireworks began as a backdrop. It turned out fantastic — the Surfaris playing and the fireworks going off overhead, WOW!!! And we have it on video!

Volunteers from the Bellflower Lions Club manned the refreshment area. Profits from refreshment sales went to the Scholarship Fund.

The 50th was all we had ever hoped it would turn out to be — and more. We are keeping the information here for those who are interested in looking back at it and also for those who were not able to attend.
